Most skincare brands rely on a narrow set of legacy ingredients recycled and repackaged with new marketing, with little scientific advancement. Recognizing the growing consumer shift toward longevity, Parëva Beauty founder Smitha Rao, veteran scientist, longevity expert, and inventor with multiple patents, set out to build a new model for technology innovation. Rather than relying on conventional synthetic or human-derived actives, she focused on plant biotechnology to develop ingredients capable of delivering pro-grade results meeting clean beauty standards. The result of 20 years of research is Molecur 3, Parëva Beauty’s proprietary, patent-pending technology. Supported by independent, third-party clinical testing overseen by a derm, Molecur 3 delivers faster, safer and measurably superior performance, establishing a new benchmark for biotech-driven skincare. With Molecur 3, Rao sought to create a biotechnology company that changes the way skincare is developed, approaching ingredients and product development with a science-first angle, taking a highly-clinical, scientific approach to discovery. The company overinvests in R&D, clinical science, and professional-grade formulations with highly active ingredients to prove its efficacy.
Insights: Smitha Rao, Founder + CEO + Scientist
Why now and why you?
I recognized a powerful shift happening at the intersection of beauty and regenerative medicine. Consumers are no longer looking for temporary cosmetic fixes. They are seeking products that actively support long-term skin health and longevity. At the same time, I had developed Molecur 3, a breakthrough technology designed to support skin regeneration and extend overall skin vitality.
That convergence created a clear whitespace opportunity in the market. We are bringing regenerative skincare into a topical, consumer-accessible format without compromising efficacy. Our products combine advanced biotechnology with clinically driven performance, delivering transformative results at a price point that broadens access to innovation traditionally reserved for medical settings.
What fuels your competitive advantage?
Our competitive advantage is built on three pillars, the first being our proprietary longevity technology. We identified the opportunity at the intersection of beauty and regenerative medicine early and built Parëva Beauty around Molecur 3, our proprietary technology focused on skin regeneration and long-term skin health. This positions us uniquely within the emerging longevity beauty category. The second is our founder expertise and execution. I bring deep industry experience, having developed more than 200 products across 15+ brands, along with two successful exits. That operational and formulation expertise allows us to move strategically while maintaining exceptional product quality. The third pillar is our clinical performance and consumer trust. Our products consistently deliver measurable results. Strong clinical performance, customer retention, and word-of-mouth advocacy continue to validate both our technology and our positioning in the market.
What’s your proudest accomplishment to date?
In just 10 months, we have achieved significant milestones that validate both our vision and market demand. We have received 11 industry awards, secured placement with leading retailers including Credo Beauty and Cult Beauty, and were selected for Ulta Beauty’s Accelerator program. Equally important, we have cultivated a highly engaged community of more than 15,000 “skin-thusiasts” who actively advocate for the brand and organically amplify our mission. Building genuine consumer trust this early has been one of our greatest achievements.
What is the one thing you wish someone had told you?
The market landscape has shifted dramatically. Capital has become significantly more constrained, and it is increasingly difficult for emerging brands focused on longevity and long-term innovation to scale within a highly competitive environment. Building a mission-driven brand today requires far more resilience, adaptability, and discipline than many founders anticipate.
What would you tell your past self before starting this journey?
Do not measure your timeline against anyone else’s. Building an enduring company takes patience. Sustainable growth, meaningful innovation, and strong brand equity are created over time, not overnight.
What does success look like in the next 3-5 years?
Success for us is about building both a financially strong business and a culturally meaningful brand. Over the next 3-5 years, we aim to build an $8 million business with strong profitability fundamentals and become fully self-sustaining and operationally independent. We want to grow a global ambassador community of 25,000 highly engaged advocates and establish ourselves as a leader in regenerative skincare and longevity-focused beauty. I’d also like to see a partnership with an anchor beauty retailer for expansion.
What's one industry trend that is overhyped, and what's being overlooked?
The rise of “fast beauty,” often disguised under trend-driven categories like K-beauty, has created an ecosystem of highly interchangeable products with limited differentiation or long-term efficacy. What is being overlooked is that truly exceptional products take time to develop. In an industry increasingly optimized for speed and virality, there is still immense value in scientific rigor, thoughtful formulation, and products designed to deliver lasting results rather than momentary hype.
The beauty industry needs to move beyond short-term trend cycles and place greater emphasis on efficacy, transparency, and long-term skin health. Consumers are becoming more educated and increasingly expect products backed by real science and measurable outcomes.
There is also an opportunity for the industry to create more sustainable pathways for innovative emerging brands that are building with longevity in mind rather than chasing rapid exits or trend-based growth.
How do you think the industry needs to evolve?
The industry needs to slow down, go back to its roots, and focus on breakthrough innovation.
If you could wave a magic wand, what one wish would you make for your business?
I would simplify marketing within today’s increasingly fragmented and complicated digital ecosystem. Modern brands are expected to navigate constantly changing algorithms, rising acquisition costs, and oversaturated channels. Simplifying that landscape would allow founders to spend more time focused on what matters most: building exceptional products and meaningful customer relationships.
